Local double glazing

A town of homeowners, and homes ready for an upgrade

Maghull is a town of homeowners. Almost nine in ten households own their property, and most live in the three-bedroom semis that went up across the town between the 1950s and 1980s, as Maghull grew along the Northway. Many of those homes are now on their second or third set of windows. Plenty are still running on uPVC fitted in the late 1980s and 1990s, well past its best.
We've been working in Maghull for more than 20 years. We know the difference between a bay-fronted 1950s semi off Liverpool Road North and a 1970s dormer bungalow on Round Meade, and we'll recommend products that suit the house you actually live in.

Neighbourhood guide

Windows and doors for every Maghull neighbourhood

The Lakes, Beechway & Deyes Lane

Built 1960s–70s
Compact brick semis & terraces
Small front gardens
Compact brick semis and terraces with small plots. Many still have first-generation double glazing that has lost its seal and its efficiency. On smaller gardens, a lean-to conservatory or a set of French doors opens up the back of the house without eating into the lawn.

Clent Farm, Liverpool Road North & Dodd's Lane

Built 1950s–60s
Bay-fronted semis
Canal-side gardens
Clent Farm's semis are known for their bay windows. Bays lose more heat than flat windows and are often the first place draughts and condensation show up. We replace them with properly supported, sealed frames that keep the shape of the frontage. Homes backing onto the Leeds and Liverpool Canal have long gardens, ideal for bifolds or an orangery facing the water.

Round Meade

Built 1970s
Chalet houses & dormer bungalows
Sandstone-coloured brick
Built between Green Lane and the canal, Round Meade is mostly chalet-style houses and dormer bungalows with steep pitched roofs. Dormer windows are exposed to the weather and awkward to maintain, so they're a common upgrade. Timber-effect and coloured frames suit the estate's open, leafy feel.

Parkhaven, Liverpool Road South, Claremont Road & Rosslyn Avenue

Edwardian
Villas, slate roofs
Red brick & pebble-dash
One of Maghull's oldest areas, with Edwardian villas, slate roofs and decorative brick boundary walls. Standard white casements can look out of place here. We recommend traditional-style windows, heritage colours and period-style composite doors with decorative glazing.

Hall Lane, Station Road & Damfield Lane Conservation Area

Victorian & older
Sandstone walls
Conservation area
The historic heart of Maghull, with Victorian buildings, narrow tree-lined roads and high sandstone walls. It includes the Damfield Lane Conservation Area and several listed buildings, so the style and materials of new windows and doors matter more. We'll talk you through sympathetic options and advise checking with Sefton Council before work goes ahead.

Moorhey, Old Hall Road & Dover Road

Inter-war & post-war
Rendered semis
Mostly privately owned
Much of Moorhey was built as council housing and is now privately owned. These homes have often had piecemeal updates over the years. A full, matching set of windows and doors transforms the look of the house and brings the whole property up to the same energy and security standard.

Ashworth & the Parkbourn Estate

Built 1950s
Terraces & semis
Open-plan fronts
Parkbourn was built to house staff at Ashworth Hospital, with homes set around an open green square. With no front boundaries, the front door and windows are very visible and matter for both kerb appeal and security. Our composite doors come with multi-point locking and a wide colour choice to suit the light-red brick.

Old Hall Park

Built 1990s
4-bed detached
Cul-de-sacs
Developed on the former Maghull High School site, Old Hall Park's detached homes are now around 30 years old. That's when original uPVC windows, sliding patio doors and conservatories typically start to fail. Owners often swap patio doors for bifolds, or turn an overheating conservatory into a year-round room.

Dover's Brook, Fouracres & The Crescent

Built 1950s
Semis & bungalows
Open field views
Mostly 1950s semis and bungalows with open views across farmland towards the coast. That open aspect is lovely, but it leaves homes exposed to wind and driving rain. Well-sealed, A-rated windows and doors make a noticeable difference.

Poppyfields & the new homes east of Maghull

2010s onwards
New-build
Near Maghull North station
The town's newest neighbourhood, with more homes planned on the Land East of Maghull site (at least 1,400 houses). New-build owners usually come to us once settled, looking for bifold or French doors, an upgraded front door, or a conservatory to add space the original layout didn't offer. If your home is still under its builder's warranty, it's worth checking the terms first.

Who we help in Maghull

Whether you're staying put or making room

Red composite front door with multi-point locking

Supporting older homeowners

More than a quarter of Maghull residents are over 65, and many have lived in the same family home for decades. With few suitable smaller homes locally, making the home you love safer and warmer is often the best option.
  • Low-threshold doors to cut trip risk into the garden
  • Easy-operate handles for reduced grip strength
  • Tilt-and-turn windows you can clean from inside
  • Secure front doors with multi-point locks and viewers
  • No pressure selling. Family members are welcome at the visit.

More space for growing families

Families love Maghull for its schools, its 15 parks and its green, semi-rural feel. But larger homes are in short supply, and moving is expensive. Improving your home is often the smarter option.
  • Conservatories & orangeries for a playroom or home office
  • Solid roof conversions to make a conservatory usable all year
  • Roof lanterns to brighten a dark kitchen extension
  • Bifold doors to open the house onto the garden
Energy efficiency

Cutting energy bills in your home

Because so much of the town was built before modern insulation standards, windows and doors are a major source of heat loss. Maghull is also flat and low-lying, surrounded by open farmland, so homes on the edge of town take the full force of the weather.
Around 4 in 10 Maghull homes with an EPC are rated D or below. All our windows are A-rated as standard.
Band A - 0.9%
Band B - 27.3%
Band C - 30.8%
Band D - 34.3%
Band E - 5.7%
Band F - 0.7%
Band G - 0.3%

Planning & permissions

Do I need planning permission?

Most projects don't. There are a few local exceptions worth knowing about.
Usually fine

Like-for-like windows & doors

Replacements similar in appearance to the existing ones normally don't need planning permission. Many conservatories also fall under permitted development.
Take care

Damfield Lane Conservation Area

Extra care is needed on style and materials around Damfield Lane and Hall Lane, and some works may need consent from Sefton Council.
Check first

Listed buildings & larger extensions

Listed homes usually need consent. Larger conservatories may need permission under Sefton's House Extensions guidance and the Maghull Neighbourhood Plan.

FAQ's

Yes. We cover the whole of Maghull and the L31 area, along with nearby Lydiate, Melling, Aintree and Sefton Village. Our office is a short drive away in Ormskirk.

Usually, yes. Glazing of that age has often lost its seals, which causes misting between the panes, and the frames and locks are far less efficient and secure than modern A-rated windows. We'll give you an honest assessment during a free home visit.

Yes. Bay windows are common on Maghull's 1950s and 1960s semis, especially around Clent Farm. We replace them with fully supported, sealed frames that keep the look of the house.

It depends on the property and on Sefton Council's requirements. We can suggest heritage-style options, but we always recommend checking with the council before any work is ordered.

Yes. We can fit low-threshold doors, easy-operate handles and tilt-and-turn windows, which are popular with many of our older customers in Maghull.

Yes. Solid roof conversions and roof lanterns are one of our most popular Maghull services, especially for conservatories fitted in the 1990s and early 2000s.
