Most people we fit for put a composite door on the front and a uPVC door on the back, and there is good reason for it. A uPVC door is lighter and cheaper than composite, and on a back door that opens onto a garden or a side passage, the extra spend on composite is not always worth it. Where a uPVC door earns its place is security and weather sealing, and that comes down to how it is built and how it is fitted, not the brochure. A uPVC front door still makes sense on plenty of Liverpool homes, particularly where budget is the deciding factor and on rental or investment properties. If you want the maximum thermal performance and the heaviest, most secure slab, that is a composite door, and we will tell you so at the survey rather than sell you up on the day. Search for a door round here and most of what comes back is a warehouse, a national retailer or a supply-only trade counter. Plenty of door suppliers will sell you a door. Far fewer are door fitters as well.

A composite door has a solid insulated core bonded inside a GRP skin, so it is heavier, more thermally efficient and harder to force. A uPVC door is lighter and cheaper. Most people we fit for put a composite door on the front and a uPVC door on the back.
Not to homeowners. Everything we supply we install, because the weather seal, the locking and the frame packing are fitting jobs rather than product ones. A door dropped off on a pallet is not a job we can guarantee. Trade enquiries are handled separately.
A well-fitted uPVC door gives you 20 to 25 years. It will not rot or need repainting, so the upkeep is a wipe down and a drop of oil on the hinges. Ours carry a 10-year guarantee on the workmanship.
Yes, when they are built and fitted right. Steel-reinforced frames, Yale multi-point locking, anti-snap cylinders and internally beaded glazing are standard on every door we fit, so the glass cannot be removed from outside.
They move very little. uPVC expands and contracts a touch in extreme heat, far less than timber does. If a door starts catching in warm weather it is usually the hinges needing a quarter turn, which is a five-minute visit.
Three to four hours for a single door, start to finish, including taking the old one away and clearing up. We give you a fit date when you approve the quote rather than leaving you waiting.
Yes, and CHAS accredited and Constructionline certified. A glazed door replacement is notifiable work, so we self-certify the installation with the local authority and the certificate comes to you.
